Faux fur is a staple accessory that is consistently on trend. Although they’re typically worn for a night out, you can wear your faux fur to work too. Keep reading for style tips to execute the look.
Do we want to address the snow that hit Chicago this weekend?! I’m sure I’ve brushed at least 12 inches off my snow twice in the last three days. What else should we expect as Chicagoans though, right? Today’s look and style tips are actually perfect for the weather we’ve been having. When it’s as cold and snowy as it has been lately, layering up is a must! Faux furs are a new favorite layering piece of mine, so I decided to try something new by styling a faux fur vest for work.
This look may not be acceptable for every workplace, so I would gauge your office setting before trying this out. My office is pretty flexible when it comes to attire so I know I can wear a look like this without a problem.
My first tip for styling a faux fur for work is pairing it with a classic “business casual” look. Adding a bold piece like a faux fur to a simple combo of slacks and button down shirt ensures that you don’t look too casual. You’re ready to work, just in style.

My second style tip is to keep it neutral. I know we’re living in the era of colorful faux furs, and although a pink faux fur coat may be BOMB for the weekend, it just doesn’t translate to the office. Stick to neutral colors like black, brown and grey. These colors are easy to pair with just about anything and people will notice you but not because you’re too loud.
Another style tip to keep in mind when styling faux furs is to keep the rest of your look structured. I was determined to wear this vest with a work look because I knew it would look so good! I tried on multiple outfit combinations and the ones that looked best had more structured pieces. Wearing a flouncy or silky blouse won’t work as well with the vest. The look doesn’t hold it’s shape as well as structured blouses and pants and you run the risk of looking thrown together. I’m wearing a classic boot cut style pant from Loft but a more tailored, straight leg pant would work just as well. Button down blouses work really well with the vest, but you could also opt for a turtle neck or polo neck style top.
My final style tip is don’t feel obligated to spend a lot of money on these pieces. Faux fur pieces always give off a sense of luxury and we want the luxurious look on a modest budget. Believe it or not, this vest actually came from Sam’s Club! I was so surprised to find this vest in a place where I buy oatmeal in bulk, and for less than $20. Now that spring is around the corner you are likely to catch good deals on faux fur pieces since they’re more common in fall and winter. I’ll link a few below and do all the deal hunting for you.
I hope you all enjoyed this look as much as I do! Comment below and let me know if you would wear a faux fur to work!
